2007 Knitting Goals.

Posted in Monthly Goals at 2:06 pm by Melanie

My 2006 Goals:
1. Cable & Ribbed Socks- Interweave Knits Fall 2005- Done.
2. Leaf Socks- Interweave Knits Winter 2005- Not Done.
3. Twisty Turns- wrap from Wrap Style- Not Done.
4. Blue Caplet- from Wrap Style – Not Done, although I’d still like to do it.
5. Finish my OLD green sweater. Longest WIP. I only have 1/2 a sleeve and seaming to do.- Not done. Although I DID get the rest of the yarn, I really want to finish it still.
6. Finish Classic Cardigan. – Not done.
7. Knit the Hourglass sweater (from Last minute knitted gifts) or do a seamless raglan.- DoneI actually did two seamless raglans.
8. Finish Lorna’s laces socks. One is complete, the other has not been started.- Not even touched.  There is an orphan sock and yarn around here (somewhere.)
9. Shaped Denim Jacket by Debbie Bliss in the Celtic Knits Book. This would probably be a project for next fall, because I’m not quite there yet.- Not done.
10. Knit a Vest. – Not done.
11. Knit Air. – Not done.

2006 was the first year I did goals for knitting as a whole.  I want to do it again, but as you can clearly see above I changed my mind about a lot of the projects I picked out.  2007’s goals will be more broadly stated.
In 2006 I completed 12 projects.  In 2005 I completed 31.  Quite a difference there!  Hopefully I can pick up the pace a little bit.

2007 Knitting Goals:
1. Keep track of exactly how many hours I spend knitting each month.  (This could be scary!)
2. Keep track of how many yards I knit each month.
3. Knit 3 Sweaters.
4. Knit 6 pair of socks.
5. Knit one lace shawl.
6. Crochet at least one Amigurumi animal.
7. Knit a Vest. I WILL do this this year. I am determined. I just haven’t found the right pattern and want it to be fitted.
8. Finish the old Green Sweater.
9. Finish at least 20 Projects.
10. Start Christmas knitting in June.

Crocheted Scarf

Posted in Gallery at 8:52 pm by Melanie

Well, for a while now I’ve said I want to learn how to crochet.  I really like those japanese crocheted animals, so I figured a scarf was a good way to learn the ropes of crocheting.  I really enjoyed myself.

I finished crocheting it over a week ago, but didn’t add the fringe (which you can’t see) until yesterrday.  It’s long and can be wrapped around my neck several times if needed.  I LOVE it!

What: Crocheted striped scarf.
Pattern: Nothing published.  I just did two rows of double crochet and then switched colors.
Started: Sometime Early December
Completed:Friday, December 29, 2006
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool, less than one skein of blue and a little more than one skein brown.
Needles: size “H” hook
Modifications: None.
Crocheting Time: I didn’t actually time this project, but it took me 42 minutes per row, so that equals approximately 7 hours, plus about 30 minutes for fringe, for a total of 7.5 hours.

I got a secret pal gift yesterday!  Well, actually it arrived the day before yesterday, but I couldn’t get down to the office to pick it up until yesterday.

There was also chocolate included but it’s gone already. 🙂
My secret pal either pays really close attention or I’m just that predictable… but this manos is the color way of my block of the month blanket.  (which I haven’t worked on most of this year- but now that I have another skein it’s VERY tempting to pull it out again!)  I also got those fantastic yarn greeting cards.  I can’t wait to see MY secret pal her next gift.  THANKS SECRET PAL!!!

I also have a few finished objects.  My sister’s socks were completed on Christmas Eve.  I didn’t get to get pictures of them. 😦

But here are the specs:

Finished: Sunday, December 24, 2006
Yarn: Kroy Sock yarn.
Needles: size 2 32″ addi (magic loop)

I also finished Uncle Dick’s Golf Club covers.  Also finished these on the morning of the 23rd.  (I gave them to him that night.)  So here they are drying after a light wash/block.

Harry Potter

Posted in General Chatter at 10:57 pm by Melanie

As I’m sure many of you know, the conversation of the soon to come Harry Potter #7 (due out in July) has started.  I typed in and got seriously distracted.  I was going to come here and talk about knitting, but instead found this link.

If they kill Harry I’ll be ready to kill somebody.  Who’s with me?!

What? Did you say Knitting?

Posted in Blankets, Crochet at 7:24 pm by Melanie

I’m almost done with Uncle Dick’s golf club covers.  I have about 5 more rows to go.
No pictures b/c the 2nd and 3rd ones look like the first one.

But I do have pictures of this!

And I have a picture of this new thing too:

I learned to crochet.  I wanted a scarf with vertical stripes but the idea of shoving them all onto a 32 or 40 inch needle made me mad.  I hate not seeing what a project looks like as I’m working on it.

Here’s a better picture that’s more true to color:

That’s all.  Thanks for stopping by… time to get ready for the bengals/colts game.

Real Post To Come

Posted in General Chatter at 8:39 pm by Melanie

Work is busy, life is busier.  Holidays are just around the corner and I’m SWAMPED, overwhelmed and stressed.

So, again, not much knitting.  I’m sucking on the goals so far this month.  It’s lousy.  I MUST get Erin’s socks and Uncle Dick’s golf club covers done.  Hopefully time will be kind to me this weekend.

I had a training session last night with a friend.  She wanted to learn to knit.  I love spreading the addiction to others.  We met for lunch today and she brought it along.  It took me back to my first project (a terribly knit mohair scarf.)  I remeber how I felt like I was knitting with two left hands.  And I remember how proud I was when I was able to hold up the completed object.  It’s thrilling!!!

Anyway, I hope the next time I post you actually have a reason to stop by and maybe a picture or two of knitting!  Would be nice, huh?

Not Much Knitting

Posted in General Chatter at 7:35 pm by Melanie

It has been a crazy week.  Not much knitting has been done.  The only thing that is really inspiring me right now is Z’s blanket.  I’ve completed one square and am about half way done with the second.  I’m structuring it much like this one.

I’m forced myself to stop working on it until Christmas presents are knit.  So I picked up Erin’s 2nd sock again a few days ago and have about 2″ left before the heel flap.  I’m ready to be done with them.  I also haven’t touched Uncle Dick’s golf covers.  The first one is complete and the 2nd one is about 2-3″ from starting the top.

I also had a date yesterday.  It was okay.  The guy seems like a fantastic guy (he brought me two red roses when he picked me up.)  He was a perfect gentlemen, but there was just something missing.  I actually keep thinking of Lee.  Even though we broke up about 4 months ago, he creeps back into my mind often.

Z and I also set up our first OWN christmas tree since the divorce and moving out.  It meant a lot to both of us.  It also meant a lot to me that my friend Mary loaned the tree to us so that I didn’t have to go out and buy one.  My mom donated most of the ornaments.  Family and friends really show true colors around the holidays.  I feel so privledged to call them that. 🙂

Merry Christmas!!!

How fast does the meme travel

Posted in General Chatter at 8:25 pm by Melanie

How fast does the meme travel? Scott Eric Kaufman is doing a study just to understand this as a graduate study. Click here to read his post and add it to your blog. Let’s let this guy see that not only to memes travel quickly, but that they run rampid among knitting blogs!!!
