Harry Potter

Posted in General Chatter at 10:57 pm by Melanie

As I’m sure many of you know, the conversation of the soon to come Harry Potter #7 (due out in July) has started.  I typed in and got seriously distracted.  I was going to come here and talk about knitting, but instead found this link.

If they kill Harry I’ll be ready to kill somebody.  Who’s with me?!

Real Post To Come

Posted in General Chatter at 8:39 pm by Melanie

Work is busy, life is busier.  Holidays are just around the corner and I’m SWAMPED, overwhelmed and stressed.

So, again, not much knitting.  I’m sucking on the goals so far this month.  It’s lousy.  I MUST get Erin’s socks and Uncle Dick’s golf club covers done.  Hopefully time will be kind to me this weekend.

I had a training session last night with a friend.  She wanted to learn to knit.  I love spreading the addiction to others.  We met for lunch today and she brought it along.  It took me back to my first project (a terribly knit mohair scarf.)  I remeber how I felt like I was knitting with two left hands.  And I remember how proud I was when I was able to hold up the completed object.  It’s thrilling!!!

Anyway, I hope the next time I post you actually have a reason to stop by and maybe a picture or two of knitting!  Would be nice, huh?

Not Much Knitting

Posted in General Chatter at 7:35 pm by Melanie

It has been a crazy week.  Not much knitting has been done.  The only thing that is really inspiring me right now is Z’s blanket.  I’ve completed one square and am about half way done with the second.  I’m structuring it much like this one.

I’m forced myself to stop working on it until Christmas presents are knit.  So I picked up Erin’s 2nd sock again a few days ago and have about 2″ left before the heel flap.  I’m ready to be done with them.  I also haven’t touched Uncle Dick’s golf covers.  The first one is complete and the 2nd one is about 2-3″ from starting the top.

I also had a date yesterday.  It was okay.  The guy seems like a fantastic guy (he brought me two red roses when he picked me up.)  He was a perfect gentlemen, but there was just something missing.  I actually keep thinking of Lee.  Even though we broke up about 4 months ago, he creeps back into my mind often.

Z and I also set up our first OWN christmas tree since the divorce and moving out.  It meant a lot to both of us.  It also meant a lot to me that my friend Mary loaned the tree to us so that I didn’t have to go out and buy one.  My mom donated most of the ornaments.  Family and friends really show true colors around the holidays.  I feel so privledged to call them that. 🙂

How fast does the meme travel

Posted in General Chatter at 8:25 pm by Melanie

How fast does the meme travel? Scott Eric Kaufman is doing a study just to understand this as a graduate study. Click here to read his post and add it to your blog. Let’s let this guy see that not only to memes travel quickly, but that they run rampid among knitting blogs!!!

It looks nice, doesn’t it?  That’s 1.5 hours of knitting HUSH from The Rowan Calmer collection.

Suddenly this morning, it dawned on me.  Cabled projects take more yarn than “non cabled” projects.  This pattern calls for 10 balls of Calmer at 173 balls.  That’s 1730 yards.  Wow.  How much Naturewolle do I have?  12 balls.  At 100m per ball.  That’s 1200 meters or 1312 yards.

 I am an idiot.

Fern Leaf Socks?

Posted in General Chatter, Socks at 1:54 am by Melanie

After seeing Kris’ completed fern leaf lace socks it “dawned on me what my next “small” project for the month should be.

That’s Koigu KPPPM color P613. What do you think?

Yeah, I know.  Browns & neutrals… so boring, right?  Well, I’ll show pictures of Erin’s socks (coming along nicely) in between showing pictures of “yucky” browns.  I love me some browns.

Also, as a side note… I have the coolest Dad.  There’s no much floor space in my apartment so I’ve been blocking items at mom and dad’s where there are many unused rooms.  Tonight I was working on pinning out my hourglass sweater (yes- it’s done- pictures to come) and Zander was “helping.”  I ran out of water and told Zander to go ask “papaw” for more water.  My dad, a little skeptical, asks Zander, “What’s the water for?”  I pipe up, “It’s for Mommy.”  He responds, “What are you doing?”

“Blocking a sweater.”

And not the kind of “oh, that’s nice dear.”  But the “oh yeah, that makes sense” type of “oh.”  My dad knows what it means to “block a sweater.”  I’m so proud of him.

Well, I’ve gotten POed at blogger one too many times now.  The final straw was this morning when it was telling me there were errors uploading a post.  I asked for more details and it gave me yet another generic response, “Connection refused.”  WELL NO SHIT BLOGGER.  Thanks so much for the insight.  So here we are.  Update your bookmarks.
