Montly Goals- February

Posted in Monthly Goals at 6:25 pm by Melanie

January Goals:

1. Complete 4 more blocks on Zander’s blanket. (total of 7) I’m going to stay neutral on this. I ended up ripping out the blocks I had done and casted on for a different type of blanket (chevron). I made it decently far into it but can’t say whether I did 4 blocks worth.
2. Complete the back and one sleeve for CPH.  If I decide to knit both sleeves at once then I need to get half-way up them. Not Done.
3. Cast on for a new pair of socks. Done. River Rapid Socks.
4. Finish Melissa’s scarf. Done.
5. Rip any old projects I know I won’t touch again. Not Done. Although I do know which projects I intend to keep or finish.
6. Make progress on any I decide to keep. Not done.
7. Two repeats of Ripple lace on Shawl. (This one became: Complete 6 repeats of the body.  I’m halfway through the 4th now.) I ripped this. Not Done.

I did terrible this month.  I didn’t have a lot of time to knit.  I did keep track of my knitting time though and brought in 25 hours of knitting time.  This month’s goals are simple.

February Goals:
1. Don’t start any new projects unless one is complelted.

I have the following on the needles:
1. River Rapid Socks.
2. Zander’s blanket.
3. CPH.
4. Endpaper Mitts
5. Cashmere scarf.

I also have several babies coming into life in the next 9 months (Courtney’s, Melissa’s, Debra’s, and Tracy’s.)  So I need to whittle some of this stuff away because I’ll be making a lot of baby blankets in the next several months.

Changing My Mind

Posted in Lace Knitting, Monthly Goals at 9:30 pm by Melanie

I’m changing my mind on my January goals.  I started this:

The Shetland Triangle from “Wrap Style.”

So #7 (Two repeats of Ripple lace on Shawl) becomes, Complete 6 repeats of the body.  I’m halfway through the 4th now.

So, any lace knitters out there could help me greatly.  Right now I’m working with Rowan 4ply soft.  Recommended needle size is a 3.  I seem to be able to master any lace pattern I try that isn’t with lace weight yarn.  The Home Sweet Home Shawl is an example.  Why is that?  I mean I know that lace weight yarn should be a little trickier to manuever, but not impossible or frustrating, right?  I feel like I’m a confident knitter and should be able to master lace knitting.  I LOVE the artistic qualities and beauty of shawls and want to be able to make a lot of them.  So where do I start?  Any easy or good projects to start with with lace weight?  What about branching out from Knitty?

You tell me.  I’m open for anything.  I have thousands of yards of lace weight that I do NOT want to go to waste!!!

6. Finish Classic Cardigan. – Not done.
7. Knit the Hourglass sweater (from Last minute knitted gifts) or do a seamless raglan.- DoneI actually did two seamless raglans.
8. Finish Lorna’s laces socks. One is complete, the other has not been started.- Not even touched.  There is an orphan sock and yarn around here (somewhere.)
9. Shaped Denim Jacket by Debbie Bliss in the Celtic Knits Book. This would probably be a project for next fall, because I’m not quite there yet.- Not done.
10. Knit a Vest. – Not done.
11. Knit Air. – Not done.

2006 was the first year I did goals for knitting as a whole.  I want to do it again, but as you can clearly see above I changed my mind about a lot of the projects I picked out.  2007’s goals will be more broadly stated.
In 2006 I completed 12 projects.  In 2005 I completed 31.  Quite a difference there!  Hopefully I can pick up the pace a little bit.

2007 Knitting Goals:
1. Keep track of exactly how many hours I spend knitting each month.  (This could be scary!)
2. Keep track of how many yards I knit each month.
3. Knit 3 Sweaters.
4. Knit 6 pair of socks.
5. Knit one lace shawl.
6. Crochet at least one Amigurumi animal.
7. Knit a Vest. I WILL do this this year. I am determined. I just haven’t found the right pattern and want it to be fitted.
8. Finish the old Green Sweater.
9. Finish at least 20 Projects.
10. Start Christmas knitting in June.

October’d Goals:

October Goals:
1. Finish Home Sweet Home Shawl. That’s 7 repeats, which will take me roughly 9 hours. DONE.
2. Start Erin’s *tall* socks DONE.
3. Finish one sleeve on grey cardigan. DONE.  Cardigan was completely finished.

*I think I shot October’s goals way too low.  Of course, I was really dreading starting Erin’s socks so I’m glad the goal got my ass moving on it.

 November Goals:

1. Finish Hourglass Sweater.
2. Finish Jenny’s Baby Blanket. It really needs to be done after the first week in December, so I’m willing to slide on this one a bit.
3. Finish 1 of Erin’s socks.
4. Cast on for new Sweater. (I have no sweater choosen. I do have a ton of yarn, but I’m willing to wager that the pattern I pick will require me to buy more yarn. ha ha.)
5. Finish Black Sea Hat.
6. Start one more project… socks or SOMETHING else on the smaller size.

This should be more of a challenge. This involves casting off 4 things. We’ll see.

September Goals

Posted in Monthly Goals at 5:29 pm by Melanie

So, I know that I’m a little late in the month to be making goals, but this should get me back into the swing of things.
Last month that I did goals: March.

My Goals the were:
1. Get to the arm hole decreases on the grey cardigan. DONE.
2. Cast on only one project this month (it can be socks or maybe the home sweet home shawl- something to break up the monotony of stockinette stitch.) DONE.
3. Make a little progress on an old UFO. I have no idea if I did this. Probably not.

There are only 2 goals this month.

1. Get halfway through The Home Sweet Home Shawl. There are 34 repeats in the pattern. I am currently working on the 14th repeat. I need to get through the 17th repeate to reach that goal.

2. Finish my cami socks.

I am using Allison’s method of turning a heel. (Found here.)

It’s a bit tricky and this attempt will be my 3rd attempt. Okay, it’s not the the technique itself is tricky, it’s just that interuptions can not happen or the heel turning will also not happen. Since Zander is at his dad’s for several more hours I will try to knock it out. These socks are tall, and make me think of fall. I’ll be able to wear my mid-calf boots with them. So it’s time to “get er done.”

If I get those two goals accomplished I’d like to work some more on my grey cardigan. Last seen here:

The body is done until the sleeves are completed. Then it will be time for the raglan shaping the collar and the button bands. The pattern is from THIS book and is being done using Cascade 220.

We’ll see how it goes.
